Chicago Public Radio is committed to helping listeners learn about issues that affect the community, the nation, and the world. Supported by contributing listeners, Chicago Public Radio produces such distinctive and innovative programming as This American Life, Eight Forty-Eight, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me! and Worldview. The station broadcasts a wide array of jazz, blues, and world music and is home to the Third Coast International Audio Festival. Chicago Public Radio also expands its outreach to the community through partnerships with local and national institutions. Originally established as an extension service of the Chicago Board of Education, Chicago Public Radio first signed on as WBEZ in 1943. In 1970, the station became one of the first charter member stations of National Public Radio (NPR). It is now the only Chicago-area member station of NPR, producers of Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Chicago Public Radio also broadcasts programming distributed by American Public Media, including Marketplace and A Prairie Home Companion, and from many other national and international program sources. |
