Using the MemberCard FAQ

1. Are all of the restaurants 2-for-1 and how does that work?
Generally, when you order two or more main courses or entrées, the least expensive entrée will be deducted from your check total. You may use the MemberCard once at each participating restaurant. Simply present your MemberCard when paying the bill to receive your free entrée; the restaurant will mark out its assigned number on the back of your card or directory. Please remember to base your tip on the check total before discount, and thank the business for supporting public broadcasting by participating in the MemberCard program.

2. What does "Anytime" mean?
"Anytime" means that you may use your MemberCard to receive the 2-for-1 savings any time the restaurant or benefit provider is open for business.

3. What is the best way to stay up-to-date with my benefits?
We recommend signing up for benefit alert emails which are sent weekly to notify you of any changes to your benefits. Click on the "Local Benefits" tab at the top of this page to access the sign up form. You may unsubscribe at any time in the "My Account" section located in the upper right hand corner tab. You can also check out our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/themembercard.

4. Is the MemberCard honored on holidays or with specials?
The MemberCard is not valid on any major US or Canadian holiday, including Canada Day, New Year's Eve and Day, Martin Luther King Day, Valentine's Day, Presidents Day, St. Patrick's Day, Good Friday, Easter, Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Remembrance Day, Victoria Day, Thanksgiving, Boxing Day, and Christmas Eve and Day. The MemberCard is also not valid in conjunction with other specials (Early Bird Specials, etc.), discount offers (such as senior citizen discounts), or coupons. Please contact the benefit provider in advance to determine if there are any additional usage restrictions.

5. How do I take advantage of benefits when I travel?
You may order TravelCards online using the link "Order Travelcards" at the top of your organization's page or by calling (800) 423-7645 should you wish to speak directly with one of our knowledgeable Member Services staff. The MemberCard is accepted in most US states and provinces within Canada.

6. How many MemberCards may be presented for a group?
Unless otherwise noted, no more than three MemberCards may be used in any one group, and a separate MemberCard must be presented for each 2-for-1 offer.

7. How much should I tip?
For satisfactory service, please tip the standard 15-20% based on the total check before any discount.

8. Can I use my MemberCard if I am dining alone?
The MemberCard program is a 2-for-1 offer, therefore it is up to the restaurant's discretion whether they wish to provide the discount for MemberCard holders who are dining alone. We suggest that you contact the restaurant before visiting to determine whether you will be able to use your card as a single diner.

9. Who do I contact if I have difficulties using my MemberCard?
Should any problem arise with any of your MemberCard benefits, or if you are aware of a company wishing to participate in the MemberCard program, please call (800) 423-7645 during normal business hours (EST). This number will put you in touch with Member Benefits the company assisting your local organization with the MemberCard program. You may also fill out an online feedback form, and a member of our Customer Service team will follow-up with you.

Why MemberCard
Trusted
Since its founding in 1990 by a public broadcasting development executive, Member Benefits, Inc. has developed and managed MemberCard programs for more than 200 public media organizations across the country. The MemberCard program has grown largely by word of mouth as stations share results and impressions of our service in the tight knit public media community.

It Works
Since the MemberCard is offered at a giving level above what most members contribute, as soon as it's introduced members begin increasing their contributions to receive the benefits. During the first year of the MemberCard program, the average gift increases $7 -$10 as members upgrade their donation to the MemberCard level, typically $10-$40 above the average gift level. If members don't renew, the MemberCard expires and members lose valuable benefits, adding urgency to renewal efforts and boosting renewal response.

Exciting New Technology
Digital media has created new ways for public media organizations to connect with members, and to assist client stations in these efforts, MBI has created an innovative loyalty-building web platform that delivers more savings value and opportunities for interaction with members. MemberCardConnect, the MemberCard program's online counterpart and highly customizable web platform, is easily navigable for members browsing local MemberCard offers, while aggregating value with thousands of savings benefits on some of the most well-known brands.

It's a Turnkey Program
MBI does just about everything for you: we recruit the participating businesses and nonprofits, handle all customer service, print the directories, emboss the cards, manage your organization's member website and even provide marketing samples and materials. You can have as much or as little involvement and control as you wish in every aspect of your organization's MemberCard program.

It's Mission-Friendly
Creating connections is intrinsic to the mission of public media. An organization's MemberCard program advances that mission in the most tangible way: by connecting members with a variety of community resources including scores of locally owned and operated small businesses as well as with each other and with your organization through MemberCardConnect's online member network. It's a true win/win/win for the station, members and the participating businesses.
