Florida’s 5, WUFT-TV WUFT signed on the air November 10, 1958 with a mission to provide educational broadcasting to the University of Florida and other schools within the broadcast area. In the late fifties and early sixties programming emphasis at WUFT was on instructional broadcasts. With the later addition of locally-produced and public broadcasting service (PBS) programming and programs from other distributors, programming on WUFT began to emphasize British drama, political comedy, film classics, children’s programming, musical specials of all varieties and virtually “something for everyone.”
Florida’s 89.1, WUFT-FM is a 100,000 watt public radio station serving 16 counties in North Central Florida. Signing on in September 1981, WUFT quickly garnered a reputation as one of the top public radio stations in the country. Broadcasting on 89.1 in stereo from studios located in the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, WUFT-FM presents a 24/7 news/talk service. In January 2006, WUFT-FM added digital, HD broadcast and broadcasts three different HD channels, HD1 is its 24/7 news talk service, HD2 is a 24/7 classical music service and HD3 is a 24/7 old time radio service.
