Originally established as an extension service of the Chicago Board of Education, Chicago Public Media first signed on as WBEZ in 1943. In 1970, the station became one of the first charter member stations of National Public Radio (NPR). It is now the only Chicago-area member station of NPR, producers of Morning Edition and All Things Considered. Chicago Public Radio also broadcasts programming distributed by American Public Media, including Marketplace and A Prairie Home Companion, and from many other national and international program sources.
